With her, it's a mixture, but she's more in the Britney/Christina tier to me. I don't think she has the catalogue that legendary artists have, but her impact/influence is going to be felt years down the line. When Billie Eilish won Album of the Year this year, she felt like Ariana deserved it for Thank U, Next. So she definitely has the love of the industry.
I'm more of a fan of her earlier work. I think she was on her way to putting together a great discography, but after Dangerous Woman, she went in a completely different direction with her sound. She was still putting out great or good songs, but the albums as a whole weren't as interesting anymore. Musically, she's gotten boring and predictable for the most part. I knew what this new album would sound like based off the first single and the tracklist. That's not a good thing at all. One reason I really like Dangerous Woman is because she was messing with a variety of genres on it. She never did that again.
Overall, I think she's already set herself up. The Sweetener/Thank U, Next period was important for her because she became the undisputed #1 pop artist. She also started getting more critical acclaim, and her personal life was also in the news constantly. I know this new album is going to smash, but going forward, I wish she would diversify her sound more. She used to have fantastic production (her first three albums). She used to sing more instead of rap half the time. And she used to be a lot of fun to listen to. But I'm starting to wonder if I should just listen to the singles and nothing else.
