When it comes to southern people, people up north have this mentality to think that southern people are backwards and live lightyears behind.

If this were a basketball convo. NYC is the Lakers while the South is the Milwaukee Bucks.

Both teams have a ton of haters but one is jealous hate and the other is generated hate due to a few circumstances.

i appreciate the south for what it offers

though i'm not aa, i'm inclined to agree.

i saw a study linked here earlier this month demonstrating that black people in the south have a lower % of white admixture on average than their brothers and sisters in the north/west.

the south also preserves a lot of african cultural and linguistic influences that can't be found anywhere else in america (gullah is just one prominent example).

neither of those facts is meant to suggest that black people in the south are culturally "blacker" or "closer" to their roots, however. i just find it strange that black people from the north look down on their southern cousins when the great migration began only 100 years ago. 100 years is a drop in the bucket.

Texas born and bred. Did some work on my family tree and saw that my folks kept getting sold...started in Maryland, Virginia, South Carolina and Georgia. Somehow ended up in Louisiana for a minute and then finally Texas by the start of the Civil War.

87% black. Seemed like most blacks I knew growing up were reasonably dark. Brown skints, there were a few. Only light skints I saw had white mommas. No multigenerational lite brites.

especially since that's where America black culture directly descends from. The food, vernacular, music, etc. When I hear a black person with a thick southern accent I find myself getting on some and that's fukked up because that's how most of our ancestors sounded. Us blacks not from the south have to stop looking down on our southern kin because if our ancestors didnt migrate our we would be them.
