They both have won 5 rings my nikka :usure:.

Kobe = Shaq and Gasol

Duncan = manu, Robinson, Parker, Leonard.

4 hofs to 2.
Shaq by himself is worth all 4 of them.

Manu was 25 year old 2nd round pick.
Parker was a 19 year old nobody who went 28th.
Robinson was past his prime and hurt.
You didn’t even know who Kawhi Leonard was in 2014.

:heh:

Though it speaks to the power of Duncan’s leadership and team basketball.

Am I looking at them both as they were when they were drafted? If so the answer is Duncan. He came into college pretty raw and turned himself into an NBA-ready player by his junior year and was NBA-ready defensively before then. A way better athlete than he got credit for too because he tore his meniscus in 2000 and wasn't as quick after and everybody remembers older Duncan. Said this in another thread but Timmy was the surest thing in the history of sure things at the time of him being drafted. There was just no way he wasn't gonna be a good player.

If I know how both their careers play out and what type of player each turns into, it's a lot closer but I still think Duncan :yeshrug: he was an effective defender from Day 1 to retirement and had the more consistent career. Even still none of this matters because it could change depending on what my team needs.

I think if you want to quibble about winning battles while losing the war, be my guest.

Kobe Bryant says he's jealous of Tim Duncan

:whoa: Look brotha we don’t gotta do this. It’s mutual respect on this side for the goat pf. Post Jordan I’d take kobe then Duncan.

It’s just about preference. But both of these guys stuck with it and won.

Tim duncan has the most all defensive team selections in the history of the nba and he is a team player, he took reduced salary and accepted his role when he was not as good anymore. In terms of who is better for the team it has to be duncan.

Clearly Duncan. DPOY-level every year and also an offensive anchor who was dominant from day 1? Obviously.

:francis: Honestly even thinking about it. If we just straight up drafting both at the times they came out you’d be crazy to not go with Duncan I guess. Kobe was not a sure thing. Duncan was easy money.

:wow: The rivalry was legendary and needs more spotlight.

So playing with a Hall of Fame coach your whole career is your subjective defintion of winning the war.

Well, my objective definition of winning the war is 1-0 w/o Shaq and 4-2 w/Shaq.
