As a kid I never really respected Cal Ripken's streak

I just never thought it was a big deal. But as an adult, when you look at it against the history of baseball, especially compared to todays players, it's insane.

Dude didnt miss a game from 1982 to 1998. :damn: Yeah, baseball isn't year round like a regular job, but when you look at how many players in 2014 who can't even make it thru a full season, it's pretty amazing. There's nobody in recent history that's even close and likely never will be.

I'd still probably put :smugfavre: consecutive game streak over it tho just b/c football is way more physically taxing.

Ripken's streak is definitely impressive considering all the odd injuries baseball players seem to come down with.

Favre's streak is the craziest to me though. Damn near 300 consecutive games in arguably the most violent sport. You got guys like Teddy Bridgewater who come in and get hurt their first start. The fact that Favre went 18+ years without missing a start is unfathomable. Nobody is ever going to come close to that.

yeah its remarkable, i mean just watching baseball and guys twist their back swinging the bat, or a hit to the face, guys break their leg sliding home or sliding into second, and back then alot of teams still had artificial turf

Can someone who follows baseball closely explain to me why he missed 6 games during that 1982-1998 timespan (obviously not counting the 1994-95 strike years)? Looking at his statistics

2 in 1982
1 in 1985
1 in 1988
1 in 1990
1 in 1998

Regardless that is incredibly impressive, but technically he did miss 6 games.

streak is cool, but showing up for work everyday for 20 years, regardless of the job, is a sucker move.

My guess is rain outs that weren't rescheduled. For instance, Baltimore's 1990 record was 76-85...so 1 game short of the full 162 game schedule.

Those were double headers and he didn't play in 1 of the games.

The Record is a Fraud

EDIT: NVM the Streak Started May 30th in the 82 season, he missed 1 game in April
