As a Puerto Rican I honestly do not see why we have a parade

just a random thought :yeshrug:

First off im actually 1/2 PR and 1/2 DR and i embrace the latino culture as a whole and love being latino and everything the encompasses it from food, music, customs, language, islands, etc etc...but i digress....

with that being said ive been to and been in the NYC and Philly PR parade but i always think why do we have a parade? We have not contributed anything to society except cuisine, great domino partners, and fertile women....

Blacks don't even have a parade and ya'll have the most history, i can see italians and irish parades cause they have many notable figures in history ..

the most historical puerto ricans in the U.S are who? Marc Anthony and J.Lo? :usure: Has a puerto rican ever invented anything significant? :comeon:

The parade has turned into nothing but a meat market for dudes to holla at woman and its kind of turned into a big joke....just make it a festival at a park no need for a parade to have a float with Terror Squad, TKA, and Don Omar :childplease:

Damn how can you be proud of who you are yet say your people have contributed nothing to society?

fukk parades in general though. Nobody cares who you are or where you came from. Jews don't have a parade and their power speaks for itself. There should be a one time only parade where different minorities march in appreciation of all the black people who fought for people of color in America. I'd support that. After that, nip all that shyt in the bud period.

1) Stop throwing your culture in the bushes...........
2) Stop living in pre-search engine world and type in [notable Puerto Ricans]
3) Slap yourself in the face for forgetting how to use the computer

if i took that list to a PR parade and surveyed 100 people what % of them would know half of the names on some of these lists :usure:

like i said i love my culture but im embarrassed of what the parades have become tho' like honestly its mostly ghetto and uncivilized have a festival with speakers and information to feed the masses instead of just random "celebs" and half nakked women if our ancestors saw that they'd be embarrassed

It's just a city-wide event to bring the diaspora together, you don't need to "buy" your way into mainstream/cac culture significance to be able to celebrate.

You think that maybe those PR folks wouldn't know the names on the list because our schools don't teach it to our students?

that too...ok i was a little harsh but it was in a way to aspire to be more than an entertainer cause that's all they highlight at the parades....but honestly im more embarrassed in what it has become like people hanging out of cars honking and acting a fool ....nothing is being gained really....if your gonna celebrate....celebrate where people can take away from it...

Pardon me as someone that has never spent much time in NYC....but what exactly are Irish folks gaining from St. Patrick's Day Parade besides plenty of beer, their relishing in their cultural pride of course.........I'm not denying what you are saying about the PR reverly maybe a little more intense.....but I wouldn't suggest stopping the parade, add to it.....YOU HELP PUT TOGETHER A FLOAT......show the faces of some of those notable Puerto Ricans and what they did.....educated automatically... :ahh:

We have Texas Relays in Houston. Most people don't go to the track relays themselves, they come into town to go to all the after parties. It is an event that draws a large black crowd from all over the state so many political black orgs use that weekend to host think tanks, community building events, and award ceremonies.

I think sexuality is a large part of PR literature and culture. People aren't being fake by portraying it. I don't think a more conscious celebration will happen unless specific traumatic events occur that call for action (i.e. a PR rodney king beating) or unless our education system changes dramatically.
