Mr. Somebody
Friend Of A Friend
Thread is awkward.
We have Texas Relays in Houston. Most people don't go to the track relays themselves, they come into town to go to all the after parties. It is an event that draws a large black crowd from all over the state so many political black orgs use that weekend to host think tanks, community building events, and award ceremonies.
I think sexuality is a large part of PR literature and culture. People aren't being fake by portraying it. I don't think a more conscious celebration will happen unless specific traumatic events occur that call for action (i.e. a PR rodney king beating) or unless our education system changes dramatically.
that sounds dope tho' like a intellectual rally maybe some poets from the new yorkrican cafe or something and music ...fukk it make it more of a music festival than a meaningless parade wasting all that government money.....
Now, the relays have never been an intellectual event, and people still partake in debauchery after the org meetings are over. Cops try to shut it down every year more and more, but that's a different story.that sounds dope tho' like a intellectual rally maybe some poets from the new yorkrican cafe or something and music ...fukk it make it more of a music festival than a meaningless parade wasting all that government money.....

Those board members are also looking at what tends to draw the most crowds. Cultural event planning is mad scheming man, just warning ya.
when i was in the PR parade in NYC several years ago we were right next to their float![]()
How exactly do you shut down a huge track meet? are they trying to shut that down or the after parties you mean?
The latter- they try to shut down 6th street and the night time events by adding steeper prices, more restrictions, and random macing of the crowds while sitting on horses. The city and the cops groan that they can't "handle it", but Austin accommodates waaay more people for SXSW and ACL just fine. The city just isn't willing to embrace it like they do cac events.

I get what you are saying.
Maybe you should try to find people like yourself who think about it the way you do. Throw the idea out there to a couple of friends and such, sees who's down and draft up a proposal of some sort to present to the event coordinators. Look into getting sponsors and things like that. A lot of big companies would be willing to shell out dollars in the name of diversity efforts. You could really do something with your ideas.
I think if you want to see it happen, it'd definitely be something you would have to really go hard for, but it would be worth it.
