I don't think theres anything wrong with having preferences when you're dating. The issue that I have, and what I see happen with black women, is that when they're looking for a potential mate to build a relationship with and marry and have kids with, Sometimes they carry on those superficial preferences that don't aid in raising children, and building a family. How is a man going to protect you when he, himself, didn't even have a father or know how to be a man. Good looks are nice, but it should be the icing...not the whole cupcake.
