The SC ruling was in June 2023. There hasn't been a full class of college applicants since then. Where are the numbers in the TikTok video coming from?
Asian students were some of the public proponents of these measures, but there were/are a lot of backers and funders of the measures to dismantle Affirmative Action. The voters in the state of Cali voted against it in 1996, and the proposition to repeal it was voted down in 2020. In super liberal, super progressive California. The sentiment about this issue has been blowing in that direction for a few decades now.
I think some were pumpfaked because people say one thing in public, and then say/vote/donate to another thing privately.

The tiktok is talking about legacy students are a bigger factor in admissions than "affirmative action students"
Basically the person is pulling stats re: wytes/legacy wytes are given preference over Asians of a similar academic background... she's recognizing that the "discrimination" against Asian applicants is just gonna shift to allowing in more wytes NOT just a reduction in Black's which could make more room for Asians. Asians are already over represented.
Her "numbers" are from legacy stats that everybody already but them knew.

Did Asian Americans outside of Cali really campaign to get rid of AA…. Or did a white guy with an agenda power this movement and use a few token Asian Americans as the face of the movement?

She seems to be pandering. On this particular issue, Asian American groups were essentially fighting against a cap on their admissions numbers. They fought to remove the cap, and expect to see their numbers go up at the selective schools. In theory, the percentages of white students admitted will go down, as will the percentages of other non-Asian groups. We'll see if this occurs in practice the next few years.
What the woman in the video is running with doesn't add up.

They want all the spots... but feel stupid because the real fight is legacy and wyte people being wyte... they're gonna start pandering cuz they're conflicted: go after wytes themselves or rile up FBA to somehow fight legacy.

Politicians refuse to push publicly funded post secondary education resulting in perverse incentives like legacy admissions.
Somehow this is our fault. It's classic scapegoating. Take a group that has collectively less power and blame them instead of the people who can and do actually do shyt.

Most of these people view these schools as a status symbol, and less a bridge to a great career. They’re complaining about not getting into their top choices. They are not being shut out of going to college.
here’s the thing, the conservatives who backed this play didn’t even need that many asians to support this campaign. They needed just enough and that was it. it doesn’t matter if a majority of them support affirmative action anyways.Who besides them didn't see this coming
Acceptances have gone out this fall, especially in the run up to the holidays.
