Props...

That's the thing, is that it seems that when push comes to shove you guys will automatically stand with the US no matter what, despite the fact that you are part of the EU. That rubs a lots of Europeans the wrong way and makes us wonder why you're still in the EU tbh.

I'm very interested in language dynamics and actually there have been various reports over the last few years about the shortage of language skills in the UK (since the UK assumes "everybody" speaks english) which could become threatening because while the rest of the world is learning to speak english the english-speakers are not learning foreign languages, which gives the former a competitive advantage (especially when perfect english is not really required). Long story short, it's becoming more interesting for a firm to employ a Portuguese guy who speaks Portuguese and English than a Brit who only speaks English. But this only applies to international fields of work obviously.

I agree English speakers should make more effort to learn other languages but because English is the international language of business people get lazy.

OP - so you're a Man Utd fan from Cardiff? Really? :comeon:

Thanks for the honest answer, but why is it that political leaders from Thatcher to Cameron go from "I want my money back" to "If you don't change this, we'll have a referendum to step out of the EU" when it's the the UK that asked -twice- to get in? They must represent a sizable part of the population to hold those opinions?

Do you consider yourself "European" (as in, member of the EU) or not? I ask because I've done a lot of youth exchanges, travelled around Europe and most young Brits told me they didn't feel european nor cared about it, and felt closer to the US than to the EU.

And why don't a lot of you guys learn any languages?
A lot of Conservative MPs want out of the EU; and Cameron is losing a lot of core voters to the United Kingdom Independence Party - even MPs have started defecting - so is forced to take a hard line. Even the promise of a referendum isn't enough now and he's getting more desperate e.g. threatening to take Britain out of the European Court of Human Rights. UKip is a massive problem for Cameron right now so expect even more absurd shyt from him leading up to the general election in 2015.

I wish I took French more seriously in school :snoop: I was @Grams 'ing my French lessons, I don't remember shyt :damn:

Yeah, again studying a little bit language dynamics it's easy to understand why English speakers can't be bothered to learn other languages, but it does have a lot of repercussions...

How do regular Brits view the influx of immigrants Portuguese, Indians/Pakis, Africans, and people from Southern Asia/Mid-East? Has that changed the culture of Britain a bit?

What is the current sentiment of the NHS? I know it is going through some changes and restructuring to keep costs down since there were some heavy NHS austerity measures back in the beginning of the year.

I was in Grantham over the summer for a study abroad and I notice that Brits (at least in Grantham and Notthingham) keep up greatly with U.S. news and events.

Yeah, watched the glory United team on TV in early 90's and made that decision.

Yeah for some reason Brits are ignorant with languages, we think wherever we go in the world there should be someone that can speak English which is ignorant and wrong.

My brothers often say, polish are the new black people. Many polish people here in the UK and they are kinda outsiders and stick to themselves like black people did in the 60's here.

NHS is always up to some bullshyt but it's a free service! We appreciate that we don't have to pay for our medical.
