He wouldn't get to use that CCNA at ALL as a level one.

It's not about using it, it's about having it. At that level, hiring managers view anything Cisco positively (mainly because they themselves don't know much about routing and switching). He'll never touch a router or switch, but having it will give him the edge over other candidates.

At that level though all he'll need is a basic understanding of DNS and DHCP.

How do you stay focused while studying?
How do you not get bored?
How do you remember the info?

What I do is

1.) Turn the TV off , Light music ( Usually soundtracks from movies ), no rap music. Always messes up my concentration
2.) Again light music / spend more time doing instead of reading
3.) Note Cards, Carry them with you + Pain is the best teacher, struggle through whatever cert you are trying to get and you'll remember it.

What's your take on the CAPM and the PMP from Project Management Institute? I am actively pursuing the CAPM and have to pay for and take those damn courses prior to testing. I am anxious, though.

PMP is one of the highest paid certs in IT right now. One of my boys trying to get his. I think there's experience requirements that goes with it though.

100k minimum for the rest of your life :ehh:
@bdizzle don't ignore me :damn:

I'll look through it later tonight breh

Yeah, I know about the PMP. They're asking for at least 5 years to test but CAPM (The entry-level cert) will get me in someone's door since the tests are coming from the same material.

I'm in security so I'd recommend that route. Learn networking very well (routers, switches, servers) understand how firewalls/vpn's work, get a couple of security certs, and you'll be gucci.
how important is computer maintenance knowledge (internal hardrives, cables, motherboard, BIOS settings, RAM etc.) and for a networker wld coding be a plus :lupe:

As an IT manager working in the field since 1998 I'll tell you that certs are only as good as you can prove. During the IT boom of 2004 many people were certified, but not qualified. And as a result, companies and managers got burned. So when I interview potential candidates, before I conclude, I pull out a laptop, console cable, and router/firewall/switch and make them show me what they can do.

Edit: Starting an IT staffing firm as well this year BTW. A buddy of mine was part owner of Zero Chaos and it sold for $250 million a couple years ago.

:wtf:
