Can you expound on that a little further
I’ve always found the concept of 3D interesting, though all the way not fleshed out. Do you know of this track “watch the world” which was supposed to be the first single and a huge anthem w/ Lisa doing all the verses

First thing, "Watch the World" I have heard of it but I aint know Lisa was supposed to be the only one on the song.. That would've been good since she aint have her own album feature since Dis is How it Should Be Done back in 92, my thing is I'm wondering where you heard that.. Like I told dude earlier, all the 3D songs that wasnt put on "Us" "It's alright" "It's On" was either done before the 3D album was being made or Lisa had her raps written but she never got to record them.. But I don't know everything so I'm curious how you found that out, they woulda been smart to give Lisa her due at that point tho... they almost destroyed their reputation
For 3D let me put it like this..
-You had On The TLC Tip which touched on alotta women's issues but none of the their distinct personalities showed through except for their voices.. Left Eye/T-Boz had some character but that wasn't the real Lisa/Tionne.. Lisa wanted the theme to be basically positive and responsible femininity
-You had CrazySexyCool and that showed three different sides of women, but the girls promoted themselves to show one side each.. The shyt was lit, but it was basically three caricatures.. Lisa wanted it that way on purpose to market better, but she pointed out when she could the three of them represented the overall package
-You had that Fanmail shyt that really aint have much direction compared to the first two albums.. Lisa wanted it to be a tribute to the fans but just about everything she put up songwise was taken down so alotta the tracks had no connection to each other besides being those typical trife, young female adult anthems.. Lisa was also losing her inspiration and wanting to write more fulfilling music in general.. Music with an actual purpose.. This was before she realized they were removing her vocals anyway. T-Boz and Chilli aint care as long as FanMail got promoted so they and the others told her to shut up in interviews despite publicly blasting her before and afterwards, so she wouldn't hurt the sales by saying honest shyt like "My favorite album is CrazySexyCool".. So she has to just sit there saying nothing in all these interviews, and so you got much of the fans who obviously don't know what's going on thinking she's this bitter bytch.. And if that was the case she had the right to be cause they were screwing her and her fans over
My rant aside, Lisa wanted to get the albums done anyway.. So she called up the exec who called Chilli and they filled T-Boz in.. After the Fanmail Tour got cancelled the TLC hype was dying down and all that meant was the controversy. At this point T-Boz and Chilli said several times they wasn't doin The Challenge so Chilli and Lisa were planning another solo album before 3D started getting done.. Chilli was still brainstorming so she put hers on hold and ended up never doing it.. Lisa juggled both cause she was almost done with her solo now
Lisa tbh wanted to get the 3 more albums they had to do for LaFace done and out the way so they could all get the fukk out from under LA Reid.. Of course after she died, he just made T-Boz and Chilli finish up 3D and then leave their contracts cause it was obvious TLC was done selling big without Left Eye.. Her idea for the album was based on her career experiences and what she was finding out about herself behind the scenes.. She wanted T-Boz and Chilli to be comfortable expressing their full selves too and she'd asked them to come to Honduras many times before too so they could be in their natural state.. They didn't then, and now they won't for more spiritual reasons
Far as the album goes, it was Lisa's way of "wiping the slate clean" between the three of them and from what their fans saw.. If they were all gonna be natural and come clean about everything and who they were as people, that would restore the fans confidence that they were still on genuine good terms with each other and finding their 2nd wind, and the confidence would give them more momentum to finish the ride out with LaFace/Arista.. Since they was already in a feud it'd be easier to be honest about how they felt.. If you're honest then even if you're not getting on 100% you still look like family, and TLC wasn't even on speaking terms for the most part right before 3D.. So this was also a way Lisa wanted them to patch up their relationship, almost like group counseling.. Anything that was left they could all put it to paper and no one would take it personal..
To do this would have to be by dropping all those personas they'd made on purpose and by accident for the sake of TLC as a performing group.. Examples being how Pebbles made them spend a day coming up with stage personas and how they'd be acting.. T-Boz wanted to stay "cool" and shyt, Lisa made all of Left Eye and added onto it later, and I dunno what the fukk Chilli's gimmick was.. Left Eye got the "Crazy" shyt added to her due to Andre Rison and Lisa decided to push it harder for the sake of promoting the album, etc..
Two big problems with Lisa's approach though and neither was really her fault
1. LA held her sales money from Supernova hostage and she had to pay everyone involved out of pocket.. Shyt was trife and he wasn't answering her calls/mail so she took him to court and he tried to hardball her by ignoring her until the court date.. So she decided to stop coming in to work on designing 3D.. Most of her parts was done besides recording and she said she aint wanna do it but as a last resort, but that pissed off T-Boz and Chilli because Lisa was the source of alotta shyt for the album including production (same as with all the others)
TLC was gettin on well at that point up til she announced she was gonna do that to pressure LA, which didn't work.. She had the legal power to straight quit the group at that point cause LA violated his contract with her by doin that, but she stayed in for all their sakes..
Luckily she won in court and got her money and left her solo contract then went back to 3D work, but T-Boz and Chilli was mad at her at that point and shyt went to like before.. That made her less interested in working and she was ahead of their schedule anyway, so she spent time in Tha Row in the meantime until T-Boz suddenly caught a brain tumor.. She got closer to T-Boz at that time in the hospital and left for Honduras while T-Boz was out, she had planned to return and finish recording.. Thing is Chilli did not see her.. She wasn't visiting T-Boz then. Lisa tried to call her before she left and Chilli didn't answer.. Then Chilli tried calling Lisa back some days later but Lisa was out of the country.. They didn't find out she died until a day after, and Chilli couldn't even get a good mental image on being on good terms with Lisa then..
This aint to say Chilli regretted nothing and didn't remember any good aspects of Lisa, but she was grieving extra hard because of the terms they parted on.. Add in that Lisa wasn't there to make sure they were all on point, and the record ended up being basically the same female anthem shyt as FanMail along with being a very "safe" tribute to Lisa.. That's not bad at all, but it's not what Lisa had intended... for example they weren't saying anything concrete and
negative about her, which is exactly she would've wanted (if they were honest) and the fans would've hated hearing that after her death..
2. She died, and T-Boz/Chilli didn't have her in the 3D dynamic anymore.. Not physically--you could get into the spiritual but T-Boz and Chilli weren't into communicating with the deceased like Lisa had been and they wanted to "let her spirit rest" as they put it.. That ain't hardly matter anyway, cause the main case was they didn't
physically have her there in the studio to record vocals for the actual album.. They tried to show some more sides of her by putting in some Supernova lyrics, but it was tacky.. So Lisa's plan fell off in the end.
if you actually read what I wrote, I said I DON'T listen to Cardi B or Nicki, I couldn't think much worse than either of those. the female MC's I listen to are more along the line of Queen Latifah, Layla, Rage, etc

But that's cool either way cause alotta cats claim Left Eye don't count in hip hop talk cause she was in a RnB group.. They forget TLC was actually a Hip-hop/RnB group..
Don't misunderstand me tho I ain't no dikkrider. I think Lil Kim's verse off Get Money has more goin on than most of Lisa's verses in TLC.. But pound for pound Lisa is still the best femcee and one of the best emcees period off accomplishments if nothin else..
Again.. first rapper after Hammer to go Diamond, and no double LP.. Only femcee to do it, period point blank
