Care to expound?

I think hes being sarcastic breh

Thing is alot black people they don't fully recognise mental illness as a legitimate affliction that requires diagnoses and treatment. Instead of trying to better understand what it is most would dismiss it as an aspect of that individuals personality like "Dont mind him Calvin's always been like that"....

As an older i think he is referring to the old school black church mentally that u either pray on it or its the devil in em. Like i remember when i was 22 and my cousin said he went to the Dr cause he has anxiety and we all laughed like “ yea nikka we black in the projects”

:russ:

But u get older and realize its real especially now with social media and people out of touch with reality

Life is weird and I struggled with socializing growing up yes :(
mhhm i think i'm somewhat on the spectrum been doin a lot of readings and some things start to make sense about the way i act and stuff kinda surprising how accurate. i cld just be trippin and self diagnosing myself because of common or similar traits and using that as an excuse idk

does anyone here have it or know someone with it? What where the signs and when u found out did certain shyt start to click as tp your behavior or the affected person? ummm how do you or they deal with it and are things harder in your opinion :lupe:
My son has it. shyt we noticed was he had no eye contact whatsoever, when he was two he wasn't able to speak and it was nothing but baby babble, also continuously spinning in circles . I would definitely say it has made shyt harder. Looking for services such as speech and behavior, finding schools that have good programs for your child and shyt. We recently had to move him to half days in school due to him not being able to handle full days. He becomes aggressive and attacks the children sometimes, meltdowns, and just not being cooperative with the teacher. At home he regresses alot in behavior. For instance, he has gone in and out of pampers multiple times. One week he is in love with wearing underwear the next week we hand him underwear he is having a meltdown. He knows how to use the bathroom but sometimes he just won't go and he will use the bathroom on himself. He is six and his pronunciation for words is bad and his communication is very limited. He can ask for basic shyt but trying to get him to talk to you is difficult.

The way it gets downplayed, undiscussed or ignored

It definitely exists, but the process for getting help is a different experience for black people than it is for white people. White people typically have more money to pay for services, more therapist/psychiatrists their color to choose from and they don't mind taking drugs. It can be a real pain in the ass just trying to find a black therapist and if you do, most likely you'd have to miss time from work to see them and pay $25-$30 each visit. We typically don't have that luxury or we choose not to prioritize it, but either way it's different. Until we can make changes in the system to suit us, I feel one of our biggest defenses in fighting mental illness, is changes in diet and getting more exercise.

I was misdiagnosed with it at 5, but with me doing research and tests I'm not on the spectrum. I know I have bipolar depression and I'm trying to seek help from a therapist with that.

This is a good thread topic, mental illness/conditions in our community needs more spotlight.

A girl from school got a lil sister with autism, she cute but she a corny little thing. haha

I used to think I had autism when I was 11 or 12. I just had a hard time conversing like/with other kids. Plus I was always an introvert. But I fit none of the other boxes for autism. I just know there's kids suffering out there with parents that don't know how to deal with the problem. I hope it can be prevented one day.
