Who cares about what family and friends think if at the end of the day you are the one hurting? Stop making excuses for other people.
I'm not making excuses for anyone, I'm telling a harsh truth. Do you know how many black women tell their own mothers about the crappy things their partners are doing only to be met with:
"You just need to pray on it. He's a good man, he'll come around."
"Well what did you say to set him off?"
"He's just going through a rough time. Be patient; it'll get better."
Black women face an unbelievable amount of pressure to tolerate abuse and mistreatment from black men, to such a point that a lot of black women don't even recognize abuse when they experience it. It takes a strong support system to leave an abusive relationship, and if you don't have it you probably aren't going to get out.
