Actually, they are mutually exclusive when your religion makes specific claims and modern SCIENCE has disproven several aspects of it.

Let's say a god or gods do exist, I think that if your holy book is vastly discredited (and deemed immoral by modern society), the book's description of god also becomes invalid and discredited.
