But I mean jay never been the most popular rapper ever... When he first dropped Biggie, Nas & Mase were hotter than he was... Then DMX came along with the whole ruff ryder movement and 2001 dropped and west coast rap made a comeback and Jay had to leave the whole mafioso rap behind and take it back to the streets... Then Eminem, Nelly, 50 Cent, Kanye West, Lil Wayne all came and were hotter than he was and sold more than him too during their peaks...

If anything, u gotta give it to jay for always reiventin himself and keepin up with whoever the big dog at the time is... I think he gets called the goat by his fans because of his consistency not becuase he ever was the top dog cuz he never was.... in rap i mean not business wise, cuz he been powerful n rich as fukk since like 1999
