There are specific awards to define greatness of a basketball player. Can he win MVPs, can he win NBA, Olympic medals, etc.
In music for example, Beyonce has over 30 Grammys and she's nowhere near the list of greatest musicians of all time.
In NBA Kareem has the most MVPs and he's considered one of the greatest.
In music a lot of musicians are snubbed out because of politics, etc. A lot of mediocrity has won all types of awards.
If you're mediocre at sports like basketball, your best hope is to be on a great championship team that can win even without your services.
In basketball you REALLY have to be elite at your skills to win the most prestigious awards.
