I had little tidbits from when I was little. But when I was 18-19 I went into overdrive. I can't even front a lot of the information was overwhelming. It was crazy cause I didn't even know my mother had any cause she would say a lot of ignorant things. But I picked her brain and she told me she read the Isis papers during her first year of high school. She told me I was too young to worry about the ways of the world so she'd play ignorant. shyt lowkey got me tight. But it is what it is. One of the first books I read was the Iceman's Inheritance.

My parents taught me from birth and they were both from Jamaica. My father and mother have a VERY strong stoic sense of Black Pride and Thought.

Had me watching Eyes on the Prize 1 and 2 when I was in my early teens. That was some HEAVY shyt to see.

Read Ivan Van Sertima at 12 and speeches from Marcus Garvey. They would also make me recite Langston Hughes poetry.

It didn't help in school because you could see how indoctrinated all of the black kids were so they clowned me but were just LOST.

It did help when I dealt with racist teachers as I could easily see the Game. It kept me out of Special Ed when they tried to throw me in there and my mom would go down to school and RAISE HELL.

It always shocked these cacs when two black SMART parents would show up and protected me from a lot of fukkery.

My parents really were concerned as I was living in Louisiana...so you REALLY had to be on code working, walking, living, and talking to white people.

My mom was with a guy who was conscious AF. He would give me books on the Nile at age 13. When I was 16/17, he started buying me books by Tony Browder.

I didn't come into full consciousness until I was 24/25. I was in Harlem and passed by a man screaming "The Black Man is God" and I remembered ODB was on Arsenio saying the same. I started researching and going to lectures hardcore ever since that walk through Harlem.

Since '99 I was 14-15 years old

My brother (r.i.p. Powerful Mind Allah)was a 5% so he shared that knowledge (each one, teach one) with myself and many others we grew up with. Around my old way in Crown Heights, Brooklyn you have/had 5%, Rastafarian, Kemetic, Muslim and just a lot of overly conscious and pro black folks who loved passing down knowledge, wisdom and understanding. I have taken bits and pieces of everything and applied it to my own life. I'm highly thankful and greatful for that.

Always had knowledge of self. I will say going to an HBCU was low key prepping me to be another Boule/Elitist type black person.

It started from when I was little but I didn't truly get there till my early to mid 20's.

Parents hooked it up with plenty of Black history stuff which only made me dig deeper and deeper over the years(and I'm still digging).

Plus I was VERY close to my elders growing up, a lot more than most my siblings and cousins so I soaked up a lot of invaluable knowledge from them that I could never get from a book. To me they were the biggest piece of my "knowledge of self".
