The big bang theory does not explain where the matter came from, it is merely a cosmological model that describes the early development of the universe. It started out infinitely small (also infinitely hot) and exploded into something infinitely expansive and started to cool and this allows energy to be converted into various subatomic particles which eventually go on to produce elements like hydrogen. These elements coalesce together due to gravity and form stars, galaxies, planets and everything we see. It's a well tested and accepted theory.

I am just asking the opinion of our atheists on a event that is truly beyond any human explanation or understanding (the pre big bang creation, existence, and gathering of mass)

As for Atheists, no Atheist claims to know what comes before the big-bang, because it is unknowable at this point. There is a REASON we aren't religious. We don't think anyone knows the unknowable.
