I was just skimming the thread about the Hawks owner's e-mail and some of you implied that the Braves moving to Cobb County was in the same vein as the sentiment of that e-mail. Can any of you elaborate on that? It's not that I don't believe you (I do), I just want more insight on the politics behind it and what the people of the city feel about the move.

You would be correct. The Braves kept it PC though. And that's what counts. :mjlol:

Truth be told, Atlanta is split racially north and south. Moving the Braves further north where most of their fans are just makes sense on a macro level. I'd say the Falcons and Hawks staying downtown makes sense as well.

I can walk to the new stadium though. :ohhh:

Generally, black people in Atlanta are indifferent towards baseball, while white people rank their sports as UGA Football > Falcons/Braves > Braves/Falcons >>> Hawks.

Adding to what @JKFrazier said, basically I-20 is one of the dividing points in metro Atlanta... South of I-20, where Turner Field is located, has a heavy black population, while north of I-20 gets progressively more white with higher income households. So of course people are saying they don't feel comfortable walking around at night and all that mess...

Basically moving to Cobb county is getting closer to the suburbs and the white people. Cobb is a rapidly developing region, though. Kennesaw State University is definitely on the come up, and their are some nice restaurants and shopping out there. I don't know about the nightlife, but I could see the area turning to something similar to Buckhead and Midtown. They have to figure out what they're going to do about that traffic though... Goodness, I-285 and I-75 are already basically parking lots during rush hour.

And that's the part I don't get. Been to plenty of Braves games and never felt unsafe plus there's a gang of police in that area during game day. Like someone said in another thread, they just worded that shyt right. Wasn't the city suppose to build that area up in the first place?

Officially the Braves are moving to Cobb County because Cobb is throwing ALOT of perks & money at them and giving them free reign into how they want to run their new facility. Braves never did & never will get that type of power in downtown ATL. Stadium talks broke down between the city & the Braves last yr (unknown to much of the public until they made the decision to go to Cobb Co). Privately the Braves, just like the Hawks former owner Levenson pointed out, had concerns about the location of the stadium being too urban (let's keep it real, Turner Field is in the middle of Mechanicsville, Pittsburg, Peoplestown, stones throw from West End...it's really in the hood) and wanted to move the Braves closer to their "fanbase" which is the location of where they'll be right off interstate 75 & interstate 285.

It's racist subplots that are involved in the decision making, but truthfully they got a better deal to go to Cobb Co (and just like @JKFrazier and a few other brehs on here, I'm probably 5 mins from the new site too). Traffic during the summer up here is gonna be a nightmare

There's a gang of police right around the stadium because they block off access to Hank Aaron Dr and Capitol Ave, but let's be real tho: At night if you're walkin from the stadium west towards Abernathy or going South towards University Ave/Atlanta Metro it gets pretty sketchy. IDGAF b/c I'm used to it, but your average white suburbanite probably thinks they're about to get robbed.

The city wanted to build up the area more but them & the Braves could never come to an agreement on what it should be...it would be dope if it turned into a green space or an art center...that neighborhood used to be very diverse racially until they put 75/85 through the middle of it, some community works might help rejuvenate that area

they need to try actually marketing to black people.
Atlanta is home to some of the most heavily populated affluent and wealthy afro American communities.
They have money, you just aren't getting any of it.

As was said in the Hawks thread, winning solves a lot...I won't go into it too deep, but here in the A, the fans are always looking for the let down, so with the exception of the Falcons, (only 16 game season) your casual fan isn't getting too involved til later in the season or even later in a playoff run.:yeshrug:
It was mad weird tho. Driving to the office one morning, listening to V103 and randomly hearing, "The Braves are leaving the Ted...":ohhh::dwillhuh: :what:
It came out of left field, no pun intended...

Its in the same vein.

Its the same reason why MARTA never gets expanded, why they push so hard to shyt on APS schools, and why ATL is so progressive but the rest of the state hates it.

Its sheer white flight.

As someone who is from Marietta this whole thing has me like :ohhh: Public transport is TERRIBLE in Cobb tho. How are people gonna get to the games? CCT? :mjlol:
Nope.

There was a town hall about it and they borderline laughed at any sort of public trans being anywhere NEAR the new stadium

Kasim is trolling the hell out of them boys too cause he's about to try and tax their asses if they don't meet their deadline to move out of the stadium
