For real, for real, most all of the educated black people I know living here are good though.

I've got black friends at Coke, Boston Consulting Group, BlackRock, doctors, lawyers, car dealerships(if you're mental capacity is enough you can clean up ), entrepreneurs, and other things.

I don't really travel in the HBCU/frat circles so my network is much smaller than most. If you can do that, it helps tremendously.

Yeah man, these misconceptions about the way things work today are just too damn common.

TBH its just heartbreaking. Too many young brehs and brehettes end up deep in non-dischargable debt with worthless degrees because of it.

Dora is right and wrong. You can get an adv degree like an MBA from a top 20 school who paid for it and still be stuck in shyt. More times than not, they don't accept you without an job in hand and it's not this lock of a degree. HBCUs will always be the key especially an advanced degree from one. White people still ole fashioned. They still hire Blacks from HBCUs.

Now obviously West Coast companies have to do more but that's just what it is.

Say what you want but nikkas should be more nicer to the Boule. Them nikkas are looking out even if it's in their own way

I’ve lived in tha Atl since 03”. I live in a high rise in Buckhead. It really. Boils down to your work ethic. Get engaged! Most people don’t get involved. This is coming from a non social individual. It’s fairlly easy to make it if you have an ethic. It’s that easy, but be prepared to grind, and you can make it. I work in entertainment and it’s been easy because it comes naturally to me. Hustle in a career that excites you, to tha point you don’t mind tha work, and you’ll prosper.

I’m just about the sheer number of folks that leave their lower COL town with less competition (including the low skill , low wage jobs) to go to a larger city to do he same type of regular ol low skill, low wage work they coulda found at home ... and still can’t even REALLY enjoy the amenities of the larger city , which was usually a huge reason for the move to begin with .

Luckily, I went into a STEM field and due to my pay, have been able to pay off the majority of my loans. My brother got a degree in a field where it’s hard to find a job, so my pop, me, and little bro are having to attack his.

I will say that’s one of the things i appreciate about my daddy. He pushed us to get degrees at all cost, and he’s been more than helpful in when it comes to tackling the debt. Has told my bro and I after each of us graduated that we always have a place to stay and he’ll go broke getting us set.

We have a real problem in our community with getting this information out there though. Most peoples' families aren't up on the realities of how this all works - they assume that it's still 1980 or whatever and an MBA or a JD from anywhere means a whole lot.

That's why I can't dump on folks who find themselves in this trap. When your family, friends, guidance counselors, pastor, etc. are all praising you for pursuing a graduate degree, it's real tough to move the other way.

For a lot of these folks, their best move is to get into any sort of government gig and take advantage of PSLF. At least they'll have a predictable income stream / career track and their loans will go to 0 after 10 years. A lot of them aren't the entrepreneurial type - just getting back to 0 net worth (after eliminating all that student loan debt) pencils out a whole lot better than most other approaches.

Everyone is not out to be an investment banker at Goldman Sachs a top 100 mba is in fact suitable for most people with decent networking skills.

I’m in the media and I tried my damnest to get to ATL in the beginning of my career(around ‘02) it was so bad that I saw this bruh from Channel 2 in ATL down in my area when a big ass train wreck and chlorine leak happened in SC, I told dude I wanted to work in the A but dude sonned me saying I wasn’t ready. He was right.... anyway six years later, Columbia SC called and offered me a job for one dollar more.. I took it because I was ready to leave my hometown. I worked in Columbia for 4 years until Charlotte came calling and they gave me a pretty good bump to come here and I took it. I’m about 18 deep in this shyt now and so I I’m pretty much plugged in and got people trying to come work at their stations. I typed all of that to end by saying I finally got a call to work for 11 Alive in Atlanta and I had all these people I worked with trying to get me there because I worked with them at my stations in Augusta and Columbia. I turned them down because they offered less than what I got in Charlotte. I’m a little scared to move there now that I have a better chance to get a job because it’s just too got damn competitive there! I feel bad for the folks there that ain’t making it. Props to the people that are making it.

And this is why I moved to Charlotte when they offered me what I’m making now. I’d be crazy trying to live here on what I was making in Columbia. They ain’t bout to have me on the side of the Brookshire holding up a sign begging for money

No doubt breh. It's just that there's too many folks who go the top 100 MBA / law school route who only end up deep in debt and with no real increase in their earning potential.

I just don't want anyone else to get caught in that trap. Staring 40 in the face with little to no savings and 6 figures in non-dischargeable student loan debt is some shyt.
