thats the problem with this system. yean the ultimate goal is the title, but the purgatory of being average or good but not good enough to win a title isnt as bad for a franchise or the league as teams not even trying to win. you dont want teams to tank you get rid of the incentive. without relegation the only way youre going to get rid of tanking is to go to an equal odds lottery for every team in the league except for the 2 teams in the finals.
indiana is in the finals and the last time they had a top 5 pick was 1988. okc is in the finals and theyve had one top 5 pick since 2010. all this current system does is give false hope to bad organizations and fans that not even trying to win will pay off in the end. the hornets havent made the playoffs in 9 years. wizards have had a losing record the past 7 years. the kings just had their 16 year playoff drought snapped a couple years ago.
Don't know the last team to actively tank hard and get the number 1 pick. And it's not like any of the current 1st Team All NBA players were the number one picks anyway (Giannis, Joker, Tatum, Shai, Spida).
It's like....HOPE is not a strategy. Tanking means "I hope we win the lottery and I HOPE the player is good and I HOPE we keep the team together and HOPE the next two drafts are good too"
Tanking is the abandon of resolve and strategy. It disgusts me.
