Chicago PD knew it was BS from the jump (they’ve had his cell phone records for weeks), but I think they were willing to sweep it under the rug as an unsolved case until Jussie went on GMA making it even more of a spectacle and insinuating they weren’t doing their job because the attackers were white.

He flew too close to the sun and caused black men to bare unwarranted admonishment for not defending him. He will deserve everything he has coming to him

I feel like that is exactly what happened. If he didn't go on GMA and try to ham it up with his crazy story, the police would have been more likely to look the other way and let the story die down. They could have been dropped the hammer.
