Avenatti’s Old Law Firm Hit With $10 Million Judgment

The law firm founded over a decade ago by the attorney taking on Donald Trump and his longtime fixer Michael Cohen on behalf of an adult film star got socked with a $10 million judgment in an unrelated dispute with a former law colleague.

The claim against Avenatti, which is winding down, was brought by Jason Frank, who argues he’s owed millions of dollars in profits and fees for his work.

Avenatti and Frank settled the claim in December for $4.9 million, according to court documents. Avenatti personally guaranteed the money would be paid , but the first settlement payment of $2 million wasn’t made by the May 14 due date, according to Frank.
The alleged default allowed Frank to seek a $10 million judgment against the firm, according to court filings. Tuesday’s ruling can’t be appealed. :whoa:

the timing on this is odd, what yall think

This guy reeked of a snake to me. For one, he took up a pornstars case that she has almost zero legal argument to win. She signed a non-disclosure and took the money, end of story. All his no-evidence claims and weak revelations were another sign. Then when he started showing up on TV every day I knew he was in it to use the notoriety to build his own brand.

A couple weeks ago he took another L for filing some brief (I'm not a lawyer terms might be wrong) with really sloppy math and getting clowned by other TV lawyers.

That ho Stormy better figure out a way to generate $10 million off her shytty fake tit job, because she just got conned by an attorney to take a BIG L for his own come-up. Any time you see a lawyer letting a client talk openly like that during pending litigation, it's a bad sign.

Fairly standard in a judgement.

I'll start thinking something is off when colleague gets on TV and starts talking about Avenatti personally and professionally.

The fact that he personally guaranteed the first $2 million settlement payment struck me as odd. In the business world I was under the impression that personal guarantees are a no-no. Would that be because of how there is no way to wiggle out of the obligation legally once personal guarantee has been given?

Personal guarantee sounds like a statement he made that is being reported on, nothing more, nothing less. I find it more immaterial than anything else. I also don't find the fact that he hasn't paid all that strange either considering what he stands to make in fees from his current case. Why would he draw on the equity of his firm or personal holdings with a potentially large settlement or restitution payment on the horizon.

:jbhmm: one of Trump's lawyers tried to make this case....

turned out he didn't have a license to practice in California.....

You do realize Avenatti is still the guy who won the largest payout in California state history

he's also beaten Trump in court before

:what: Trump is also in trouble with his own Ethics Office

:leostare: what is going on here

From the Bloomberg Article
Avenatti, who says he’s secured more than $1 billion in recoveries for clients, founded Eagen Avenatti LLP in 2007 with three offices in California, according to his website. The firm’s victories include a $454 million verdict last year against Kimberly-Clark Corp. and its spinoff Halyard Health Inc. over the safety of some of their surgical gowns. A judge subsequently cut the verdict to about $25 million. :dead:

How can a judge shrink the settlement so much? Wonder if dude counted the $454 million initial verdict when tallying the total dollar amount of recoveries for clients.
