The autopsy confirmed he had vitiligo. Given his obsession with his appearance and the constant scrutiny he was under, he opted to whiten the skin in uniform. He used makeup earlier but as the vitiligo progressed, he essentially threw in the towel. Reportedly, he used prescription strength hydroquinone early on before switching to the much more expensive, albeit permanent monobenzone, which essentially kills melanocytes (cells that comprise melanin.) He did this in order to eliminate one problem but in twisted irony, it drew more negative press and only server to further the perception that he was "Wacko Jacko" in the minds of the general public.
I'm also of the belief he absolutely suffered from body dysmorohia. He's on record stating as to how believed he was ugly and post puberty, would often avoid mirrors within his own household. He's stated he was never satisfied with his appearance, and went as far to have his lips, eyebrows, & hairline tattooed, along with multiple cosmetic surgeries to "fix" features such as his nose that only served to make him appear more ghastly.

It was an avalanche of circumstance & physically -- and mentally-- he paid a price. Michael was brilliant and the most famous celebrity to walk planet earth, but it came at a cost.
