Oh that is 8.1, you see the smaller tiles, also if you are at the start screen you can just start typing for what you want can it search everything...I cant think of other add on right now, but the smaller tiles gives you more flexibility when it come to customizing your screen to get what you want on the screen without having to scroll

Plus you can have your desktop background as your start background. (Which I like it alot it make the OS feel more cohesive) If you want to boot directly boot into the desktop you can now etc.

Also you have have an app take up half the screen or a 3rd and the desktop or another app take up the rest, helps with multitasking

You can use an app called obly tile to put custom images on your tiles I did it with my adobe photo shop and the rest of the master collection, and also a program called fluenz I made those, when I get time I am going to do one for Rosetta stone


Also, you can right click on the desktop and hide all icons so it one shows the background I do this because it keeps it looking organized with out it actually being

Depends did get Win 8 rt or full windows? If rt Full windows you dont have to use apps if you dont want to.
