Predators tend to have eyes that face towards the front.
Prey tend to have eyes that face left and right.
Think about a human for instance...we are big time predators so we are a perfect example. As opposed to a rabbit...who is small and doesn't have many defenses...has to be able to get away quickly and gauge surroundings faster...hence the speed and ability to look left and right...peripherals should allow them to look behind them at least decently as well.
