For the last year or so I've thought about joining the MBK program in my city to mentor one of the black youth. I just haven't been bold enough to take that step forward and have used excuses like time, work and laziness to talk myself out of it. My father mentored a black youth child 10 years ago, directed an after school club for black youth and worked at a boys and girls club mentoring black youth so I've seen how his influence has had a positive outcome on their lives.

I wish I knew about this before I signed up for the Big Brother program because I would have definitely done this.

But I got matched up with a good kid (he black) so I will stick with this for now.
