OHMIGOD...so I was reading this article (which is brilliant, even though it is kind of frustrating to read the comments of others, so oblivious to their own privilege precluding their racist statements by saying they condemn racism...)

My Open Letter to White People or Why I Hate ‘White people’

Dear White People,

I don’t hate you. I know you are convinced that I despise you and your entire existence and want nothing more than to destroy you and the unicellular body you evolved from, but that is not the case. I know I’ve said ‘ugh White people’ and ‘fukk White people’ and ‘I hate White people’, but there is more to those statements than blanketed, unprovoked bitterness. There is an underlying understand that maybe you don’t see that I assume is evident.

When I say ‘I hate White people’, I’m saying I hate that I have to be compared to you in order to get any recognition. I’m saying that I hate the fact that everything that I do is judged by your standard. I hate that no matter where I go, I will be scrutinized based on your principles. I hate that I cannot exist without being subjugated to you. I hate that you don’t have to think about these things on a regular basis.

When I say ‘I hate White people’, I’m saying I hate that I get told any time I mention race or racism or racial inequality that I should ‘get ‘over it’ and that I’m being ‘too sensitive’ and that racism ‘doesn’t exist anymore’ or that I’m not ‘affected’ by it because I’m not a slave.

and it just hit me...white people are so used to being the center of attention in society...anything that doesn't kiss their ass or goes towards a "we are the world" mantra is seen as racist in their eyes.

I think one of the more ignorant statements I hear thrown around is "why even care what white people think of you?" As if what they think about Black people doesn't have real life consequences for Black people. I'm not suggesting that we let their thoughts of us run our lives, but having an idea of what whites think can literally save your life in many instances. For example, the young man who was shot and killed by police in Walmart while talking to his girlfriend while holding a toy rifle, his situational awareness was non existent, why, because like many of you, he didn't really care about how he was being perceived by the people around him, which is how we SHOULD be able to live, but the reality of the matter is that we can't.

There's no way in the world I'd even get close to a toy weapon in the presence of white people, not because "all whites are bad" but because I understand that getting stereotyped doesn't require "all whites", it just takes one.

Obviously white people have been a curse to many groups of indigenous people. From Africans, to "African Americans" to the Aboriginals in Australia, to whatever Mexicans were before their land became called Mexico (Aztecs/Mayans?)... The question that needs to be asked is WHY were these groups cursed. Doesnt seem that anyone wants to tackle that question. They just want to keep trying (and failing) at setting themselves free when it wont work. I mean what are we going to try that those before us didnt? Whats missing?

Nothing is missing, everything we need is already here but it's difficult for an oppressed group to tackle a system like white supremacy when there's so many other distractions. What's more important to Black people in the hood, fighting white supremacy or keeping the family fed and the lights on?
