What's so frustrating about B.O.B.s questioning of the earth being round is that if he was acquainted with any depth of knowledge regarding the development of modern astronomical theory, he would be aware that the fact that the earth is round, and that "heavenly bodies" in general are spherical and rotate/revolve based on laws of gravity, was the source of so much early scientific confusion. which the planets ("wanderers") and Sun moved in circular orbits around the Earth. This system would later greatly influence the understanding of the Church. Ancient astronomers, however, had observed the apparent orbit of Mars (when viewed from Earth) and they noticed a bizarre orbit (Apparent retrograde motion - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia). As a result of their belief in the geocentric model, they attempted to explain the eccentricities of the planetary orbits with maps such as this one:
It was only once they placed the Sun at the center (Copernicus) that they were able to piece together the rest. However, none of this would have even unfolded as it did if the earth is not a sphere! The fact that it is a sphere, and not in the center of the solar system, were the conditions that caused confusion for almost 2,000 years!
His questioning really lays bare his scientific ignorance. And yet he is the one calling into question the knowledge of others? GTFOOH.
