The curse of our school is first round talent with a HC that doesn't know how to coach it. Cal always attracts NFL level talent. We never capitalize on it. Tedford was the closest we got to coach correlation to roster talent level and even then he ain't go to the natty with Aaron, Deshaun, and Marshawn on the same roster in their college primes.......and I'm not even including Cal low key offensive and defensive line roster like Cam Jordan and Alex Mack wasn't at Cal at the same time.

And then you have people like Jahvid Best, Jared Goff, etc.

Mendoza is a pro QB. Plus arm with good placement, plays from structure very well, height, timing/anticipation, very consistent, etc.

To be honest, the ACC might be the perfect conference for Cal; they'll still get good talent, they'll get on TV a decent amount and maybe in time, a larger conference will come and snatch them up. (This is all dependent on if 'Furd can ever become competent in football again).

In addition to Cignetti, Chandler Whitmer is the QB coach at IU. Dude tutored Justin Herbert, Trevor Lawrence and Michael Penix Jr.

People forget, IU was a PROBLEM when Penix was there; he had them in the top 10 and beat Michigan before he got hurt. They've always had talent, they just haven't had a coach who's had the health or the administration who's willing to support having a good football program.
