If they were fully independent you wouldn't see Lil Wayne and Lil Chuckee on the Universal Republic site....but you do. Drake and Nicki Minaj are also property of Universal. Nicki didn't sign to Universal or make a deal with them then go to Young Money. Young Money was where she signed then all the sudden shes a Universal artist but they have nothing to do with each other? They let Universal strong arm an artist from them but they are their own boss? Doesn't sound right to me. Not logically.

Just because Cash Money wasn't fully rolled into Universal doesn't mean they don't have a stake in the label. Also, it is very much in their benefit to hide any back door deals because their status depends on it. Their lifestyle and image is based on it. For example on their website and in print they say that they are entitled to 100% of everything and Cash Money cuts a check (not that Universal gets a percentage) to pay for distribution when in fact Universal gets paid on *ALL* royalties and publishing. Cash Money does 100% own their masters but that doesn't mean that they are fully independent of Universal. As the distributor who is paid for the product Universal gets paid for the cds then cuts a check to Cash Money, not vice versa. So you can see the inconsistency about their situation.
