Backpacks or Messenger Bags?

Messenger bags look more official but backpacks let you bring a hoodie and discard it, a book, a lunch, canteen, etc. Should I make the switch to a messenger bag or stick with what is more practical? Just a young bro out here trying to look the part as enter the professional world before grad school
