If a school has students failing miserably at this rate that's an indictment on the teachers and their teaching qualities and the district should fire them for allowing/aiding their students to fail without attempts of trying to improve the situation.

A teacher has all year to notice their students not performing well academically and has enough time to fix the problem. Sitting in class supposedly “teaching” while allowing the kids to fail and not do anything about it while you collect a paycheck isn't a part of the agreement between you and the district nor the parents.

It's not always the parents. The parents sent their kids to school because they trusted you to educate their children since you're supposed to be skilled in that profession. It's their job to make sure every child in their classroom is learning and performing well.

Do y'all just love to stereotype Black Parents as everything bad under the sun and make it sound like the kids are just naturally stupid and unteachable? Yeah, I know a lot of you guys despise certain classes of Black Ppl and think and speak negatively about them every chance you get. Pure cac shyt.
To what extent can a teacher make a student do anything? You dudes dont want to live in reality. Its not a teacher's job to force kids to want to learn or cooperate. It's to help the ones who do.

Except you don't need books. Have you ever looked at these books? There's barely any updates in the new versions.

Youtube and Khan Academy can teach in damn near any subject and way better than those books.

Under the assumptions that everybody has internet access. Sources for learning have to be vetted. Youtube is great source but there is no vetting.

Gang violence...
The best job those parents can get is working at a Amazon plant. That's as top-tier as they're gonna get.
to me, this seems like such an obvious yet ignored problem. if the kids dont know anybody who relies on intellect to earn a living, what do you think is going to motivate either them or the parents to do their best? even worse, if the kids are constantly economically insecure, how do you account for the toll all the crises they face will take on schooling. then, how do you deal with kids who are fairly stable but surrounded by unstable kids? clearly these kids are the people society has selected for failure. you will have to fix the situation holistically, because school cant solve social problems.

Man, woman, and child
Some don't give a fukk. Some can't give a fukk. Let's try to help the ones that can't give a fukk. And see if we can shame, then empower the ones that don't.
I agree there are parents who are in a bad spot and are doing what they gotta do to put food on the table. As a result it limits their amount of time at home. But this has been the case for a long time in the black community. One thing that hasn’t always been the case tho is undervaluing education and that shyt is mad prevalent these days

You have to understand these threads are only made for the purpose for undercover CAC and NON-AADOS/FBA to shyt on American Black people.

Know a troll thread when you see one. :yeshrug:

There's nothing troll about this thread. Stating truth is not trolling. Highlighting and even clowning our deficiencies is not trolling, nor does it mean someone is a cac.

I'm from where Petey come from
I drove down Reisterstown Rd and Penn Ave the other day and all I could do was shake my head in disbelief at what I saw :francis:

Then some youngin’s came to my vehicle on MLK to clean my windows. I told them; “I’m good” but gave them some money anyway and told them; “I rather see y’all do this instead of something else…” They thanked me for it. But the sad part it was like 7 of them :mjcry:

I agree with some of the comments mentioned earlier. You can’t tell me Satan, whites and complicit black folks didn’t systematically fucc over a once thriving B’more :mjcry:

yea, these numbers are skewed like CRAZY.

if GPAs went DOWN during the pandemic, obviously something is wrong with the remote learning process.

I'd also love to see the gpa drops in other cities, especially other big cities.
Its happened nationwide - including in wealthy high-performing districts and suburbs.

Kids were less likely to go to class, less likely to be engaged, and less likely to turn in work or sit for standardized testing during the pandemic.

I mean honestly, I know the first thing you may think is "man these kids are dumb" but school itself in america is stupid as shyt, the main thing they should teach is math and reading comprehension and once the kids are like highschool age they're better off working, that's how it's been for like thousands of years for most people. These kids just can't focus on school.

Y'all remember that one scene on the wire where Micheal b Jordan was helping this kid with his homework, it was math right, the hw, kid wasn't fukking with it, couldn't figure it out, but Jordan asked him how to add up them packs right and that kid had it figured out in like a second. These kids are capable but the environment of school ain't really where it's at for them.

I'm kinda rambling but education period in America is really a scam.
Public education is free, and not that difficult.
Of course, we have to radically alter the public school system to be more flexible and more accommodating to students across the spectrum - but this is clearly about the pandemic substantially worsening an already overburdened and underfunded school system, and the economic and social conditions that come out of a global health crisis.

Folks will make a priority for whats important to them and will demand better.

Baltimore city schools have been a problem for a while now. There are failings on all sides as far as I’m concerned, but I’ll always put more blame on the folks at home since they can control their own actions.
Austerity and privatization made things worse. But this is clearly about the global pandemic more than anything else.

Yeah I feel like high school leans way too much on College Prep…College Prep should just be one track you can follow with other tracks being actual trades like Plumbing, Auto Mechanic, Network Technical etc so kids can graduate with carts they can actually use fresh out of high school to get a job. You should be able to graduate high school with ASE certification, A+, etc… that would help keep students involved.

Not during a pandemic - nor is it particularly useful. Pretty much every single urban school district in the U.S. has programs for students to get into trades - the problem is "college prep" as an only option - the problem is the global pandemic made school vastly more difficult for the majority of students, particularly urban students.

okay she's a republican but she gives an interesting take on it

Come on man. She's a stripper turn conservative grifter. She, like all politicians, don't really care about societal issues -- they pretend. She's married to a white guy. You think she gives a fukk about poor black kids in Baltimore raised in a broken home?

I'm not talking about her opinion on anything.
But she stated that Baltimore wasn't ready and these students with below 1.0 GPA are still passing the grade and going on the to next.
Well maybe that's partially opinion, but i'm not talking about her partisan spin.

Put it this way, when I saw the thread I went to twitter to see what people in baltimore are saying and she was the only one I found.
