My immediate area in will be fine but I'm hoping and praying it's not as bad as they're predicting

"You may think this is associated with the heavy rain that we had Monday and the heavy rain forecast overnight into Friday, but it actually has to do with the set-up of the atmosphere rather than the rain.

The big picture of the pattern bringing us the threat for coastal flooding

We were recently impacted by the strong area of low pressure Monday which then crawled east and sat off the east coast for the past two days. This made for high water levels and some minor coastal flooding in a storm which absolutely battered the northeast with high winds and flooding.

The proximity of this area of low pressure did not allow for water levels to recede in the Potomac and Bay, and little northwesterly flow was able to aid in that process as high pressure briefly moved overhead Wednesday into early Thursday.

A number of river gauges are forecast to reach "Moderate" to "Major" flood stage across the region.

This low is forecast to hang around Saturday before finally exiting Sunday meaning there will be several high tide cycles where flooding will be likely. As this is expected to be a big event, take the necessary precautions and if you're area is prone to flooding prepare now."

Major coastal flooding likely for parts of the DC area; One of biggest in 10-20 years

Yeah it’s gonna be ugly today. I purposely ran all my errands yesterday so I won’t have to leave this house. My neighborhood will be fine unless we lose power.

I’m concerned for places that frequently flood like Alexandria and Ellicott City, mainly the latter. It gets BAD bad up there
