Baltimore City student passes 3 classes in four years, ranks near top half of class with 0.13 GPA

Very sad.

Placing blame isn't going to be very productive. The school failed the kid. The mother failed the kid. And the kid failed himself.

Repeating years of schooling or trying for a GED, fine. Whatever they decide is up to them.

But what good will a GED or 3 years of school do if the kid doesn't take it seriously and doesn't have the support to help him develop his ability to absorb and apply information?

How does that prepare him for the next steps of his life?

There is a larger issue at hand. For him and the other kids at that school.

The mom is blaming the school for everything like its THEIR fault HER son is a dumbass. Even dumbasses can get a diploma. She literally just didn't give a shyt about her sons education. That's 100% on her.

It is a little deeper than that. Her son needed to be accountable to the work he missed (having missed almost 300 days of school), mom needed to be present and more than aware (she needed to be an advocate where son could not), pops is a dead beat, school was on that fuxk shyt. All of this made the perfect storm for this to be his reality.

I used to work with kids in Balto. City. Many of them have some of the shyttiest circumstances. I kept my foot in their asses and did all I could do. Some kids are destined for greatness and still are stifled by that fukkin city... smh...

Kids on average go to school 180 days a year. So you're telling me he was late or absent for 1.5 school years?!?!

I've seen it. They leave the house and don't fo sbit most of the day. When they go to school, they fukk around because they don't know what is happening. It is worse when a kid isn't disruptive because the teacher will let them live just to get through the day (and because they're dealing with other a$$hole kids). shyt is a vicious cycle. @eXodus

my school system we stay in contact (or at least try to) with parents when their kids aren’t doing good. I’ve made 4 calls this week alone. Our principal sends out a newsletter every week to the whole community (teachers, parents, students, etc)

I refuse to believe nobody in that school system tried to contact her about her child’s grades.

That’s because it ain’t no way she’s just refusing to take accountability
