This is another problem with NBA fan culture. NBA culture is too political. Stans feel like these records are only supposed to be broken by a select few players or players they deem worthy. If Jokic goes for 83 in the same manner, then there is no debate on its ethics of how he did it. He’d get praise immediately and be hailed the GOAT. If a non American player like Wemby does it, then it just adds to his burgeoning legendary trajectory that NBA media and fandom thirst for and he’d get praise as well. But because it’s a regular Black American born and raised player Bam(yes he’s American through his mom and wasn’t raised around his pops), rather than one of “he got next” type of non American players, ppl treating this like it’s a travesty. Seeing a random like Bam between wilt and Kobe has folks in an uproar because NBA fan culture is so damn political. In the NFL, nobody gives a shyt who breaks certain sacred records. They get broken and ppl celebrate.
