Average booth rent for a barber here, in San Diego, is $250/week. That’s roughly 6 cuts at $40 when you factor in tips. They can make that on a Saturday with walk ins and book their regulars through the week for their gravy. No reason to charge more unless you suck at math or don’t want to work.

There could be a million reasons why they'd go with another painter, you're out of business either way.

Also something called "low barrier to entry".

No, there isn't a million reasons. You either did a good job or a bad job or someone cane in cheaper but they end up having poor quality.

Low barrier to entry dont mean anything, a lot of people half ass their business. I’ve worked with painters before, a lot aren't good and we wouldn't use them again.

No sense in making this discussion complex.

Makes no sense and you did not understand what he was saying. Basing your pricing around a very small group of people vs the vast majority is a losing proposition for most barbers, because expecting people to pay that type of money consistently is wrong.

Having a steady stream of customers paying good money vs relying on a few big spenders is not only a better long term strategy but also what most barbers should be doing. Most barbers are not going to be getting enough high spenders, if any at all, to charge exorbitant rates.

I mean you have Residental contractors that do nothing but million dollar homes.

You have Car dealers that sell nothing but high end exotics. Would you rather sell 20 Honda or one Ferrari?

A barber that does nothing but athletes, doctors, lawyers and celebrities would absolutely make a killing. Some barbers just got it like that.:yeshrug:

Again, you are not getting the point. The discussion is around barbers as a whole trying to charge a very high price when the market is not that. Who cares that some barbers have rich clients when the vast majority of barbers have middle class clients.

All you are going to do is push the vast majority of people either to find a cheaper barber, get their hair cut less or to cut their own hair. That is not sustainable for most barbers and you can not argue against that. That would be like restaurants charging out the ass for food, driving people away to other restaurants or having them cook at home. There may be some restaurants that can set high prices and work but that is not smart for every other restaurant and that shyt will put you out of business.

It means any with a pair of clippers take your business.

I forgot who I was listening to, but a lot of folks half ass their business.

A lot of barbers out there can't cut. Does every dude stay with their first barber? I doubt it. If you move to a new city you might try 3 different barbers.

I just started doing it myself cause all them days in the chair I started tracking his movements low key. Then he moved across the city. If you not drastically changing your hair every month it may be time to pick up some clippers and a curved mirror and figure it out yourself

Im not gonna speak for the people who got rich clientele. Maybe you know a lot of business owners, I don't.

This same discussion can be had for makeup artists, hairstylist, maids, personal trainers, and personal cooks, etc. Im under the assumption that if they only have rich clientele that live in Beverly Hills they're doing far better than someone who accepts average people. But maybe im wrong

Exactly, shouldn't the price be based on expenses?

Bald gang don’t have these problems. Had a dude charging me 35 for a baldie with a beard tape.. I have to take matters into my my own hands. I bald my own shyt and get a tape every two to three weeks. The shyt cost 12 dollars and I leave a tip. A lot of dudes ain’t nice enough to charge what they charge.. they’re only doing it because the barbers around them are charging that :yeshrug:
