This is going to sound silly/stupid

But set up shop where black people are outside...get a barber chair, cut people on the spot. Have someone film and edit it, go “viral” and then become a premium barber.

Literally set up a chair and mirror set up outside of a club and offer haircuts

Set up at graduations or black events

film it and develop a following online. Become “THAT barber” where people actually start seeking you out/recognizing you, rather than just becoming another barber

A year from now you’ll be cutting in people’s homes for $100 a cut :wow:

The importance of Social Media is crazy with Barbering. That's a really good point. shyt, the $100 haircut is a reality more than anything.

I know you feel this way now, but it's always better to own your own shyt.

Then also have a few other guys come apprentice under you at your own facility as well.

I'm not a barber, but I know a little business.

Then why did you just give the most cliche, surface level advise?

it’s better for him to perfect his craft before focusing on other things. If he’s a black barber he won’t perfect his craft at great clips

you gotta do like everyone else. Start from the bottom, go get the last chair at a shop around the way, learn on little kids and old men and pick up tips from the seasoned barbers and shop owner

then plan your next move

Great clips :dahell:

I’m not sure if you’re white or black :patrice:

Ima go the black route... I’d say try to find a chair in someone’s shop. I think it’s usually a 50/50 split? Maybe 60/40 their way at first. Clientele will be low at first but Spring break summer is right around the corner. In the mean time advertise an in/house service on social media for the low. $5-$10 house cut for those with low pockets will get some money in your hand

From what I understand, renting a booth seems the way to go. Setting your own hours and prices, seems like you get alot of wiggle room for marketing yourself.

Save enough bread and find the perfect location to start your own shop, or join the best shop in your area, build your clientele, and be about your business. You got think of yourself as a business owner whether you own the shop or renting a seat.

Just kidding at least you’re honest about who you are :manny:

But I would 100% leverage social media

I totally understand I'm starting at the base level. Think I'm "putting the cart before the horse".

Trying to learn to look at the big picture. Appreciate the advice.

Since you’re white you should definitely try to get on at a great cuts.

But keep a heavy Social media profile and show off all the haircuts that you snap on

I have roughly 2 months left until I'm done with Barber school.

You may not need a traditional shop unless you really build clientele. I've seen some people that don't own a shop, just have there gear and network, set up appointments meet clients at their places on their time, or they come to your crib.
