Their problem has been pricing. They don't even price match their OWN website in store. :mindblown:

A physical/digital edition of a new book will be $12-15 on Amazon and BN.com, but that shyt will be $20-25 in store. Blu-rays and DVDs are like $40 apiece unless you catch a sale. Their whole business model has been way too slow to evolve.

"in any decent society."

"That's not amazon's fault."

uh... society is the subject.

And in a progressive society we have to keep moving forward. Resources and time shouldn’t be wasted on things that aren’t innovative or pushing us to a higher level. shyt is a dangerous mindset to have. Either adapt to the climate or die.

Going to Barnes and Noble is more than just about going to get a physcial book. It's about the experience of wandering the hallways, sitting down to read something that catches your eye, hanging out and meeting up with friends, etc.

The store itself just has this serene atmosphere that makes you feel at peace. To me it almost feels like an escape from reality, a place where I can go in and temporarily forget about any troubles I got in the outside world

As far as the battle between E-Books and physical copies is concerned, there's one thing that an E-Book will never have over a physical one. A physical book can age and become part of history itself, making it more valuable. Throw in the ability to write signatures and other notes in a book and you can literally hold history in your hands.

The ones with a starbucks inside always have a good amount of foot traffic but i guess those people are really just lingering and coppin coffee instead of the books. I hope they dont shut down completely and just go half online with a few big stores

They fired almost all their full time workers on Monday. This was one of the best places I worked at. Got me through my college years :mjcry: They fired damn near everybody. Amazon our here slaughtering retail stores :picard:

I used to like the store but you can't say they didn't do it to themselves. They had dumb policy. I tried to buy "On Food and Cooking" a few years ago in Palm Springs and they didn't have it in store but could order it for around $40.00. I looked on amazon and it was about $20-$25. I asked if they price matched and dude was like no "but do you still want it?" I haven't been back to one since.

If you're a retail store that doesn't price match with amazon you're gonna die a death by a thousand cuts.

Why don't try at your local public Library?
I got him a library card yesterday evening. The libraries around here suck though. Just a hole in the wall with some books and computers and bums looking for a warm place. My kid is fine with it though.

You've been trained well, friend.
