the number of black owned businesses in the US have tripled in the past 12 years. Then we wonder why there's a dearth of Black businesses. Segregation was the only reason why we had them in the first place because the White man has to force us to take care of our own.
the current trend is a positive one as their are at least 60.4% more black owed business now than
their were in 2002.
the main difference is most of our businesses are heathcare or social assistance related rather barbershops and convience stores.
but ..
you're right there was a decline following desegregation but that is old news. currently we are in the middle of a cycle of growth. black people are doing better than ever right now and that includes during segregation.
the real issue is that More than 94% of these businesses are made up of sole proprietorships or partnerships which have no paid employees. so while black business is thriving (relatively speaking)
it has little impact on the black community because no additional jobs are created.
what we need is more black owned businesses that employ lots of black people. more black corporations.
But at the very least the current trend is growth. if we were to grow at this rate for the next 30 years we would make up 1/3 of all businesses in the united states
