7.5 billionyet damn near team owner is crying poor
bytch azz nikkaz.... believe in what ever they want
Owners aren't crying poor at all. There getting massive TV deals both locally and nationally. People saying baseball is dying because national tv ratings are down, but local ratings, attendance, and subscribers to MLB's internet content suggest that people are still into baseball there just really into there own team. The reason for that is unless your the NFL, fans will only watch a game if there is a compelling storyline, rivalry,or athlete.
As of right now the most popular rivalry (Yankees Vs. Red Sox) has been at a lull because both franchises are in a decline so there aren't really any heated rivalries at this point. Baseball also does a terrible job of branding there players as opposed to other sports, so even though theres been more parody in baseball than in the other sport in the recent years theres been a lot of small market and mid market teams winning and again baseball doesn't have that transcendent star right now, or rivalry right now to make people watch a game where there team isn't playing because there isn't that trancendent star or rivalry to compell them to watch. With that being said the fact that baseball raked in 7.5 billion dollars is crazy impressive considering the NFL raked in 9 billion and people are projecting baseball to reach that 9 billion mark next year
Its like how the NBA when into a lull in the post Jordan era when the eastern conference sucked and there was a lack of marektable stars. Then Lebron's chase for a championship and his lack of ability to accomplish it became a big story. Then he became a free agent and became the most hated person in sports. Then when he failed people wondered whether he'd ever win a championship, then he actually did and now the storyline is whether the lakers with all there stars and controversy are able to get it together
Baseball needs transcendent storylines like this to get there national ratings up but the fact that they raked in 7.5 billion regardless shows how popular the sport still is.
