Dark Knight Rises tried to do too much. The premise alone still boggles my mind. If there is a world where a Batman can exist, let alone a Gotham City, there's no reason Bruce Wayne would stop being Batman for 8 years let alone do some stupid shyt like take the fall for Harvey Dent and compromise "The Mission".
Nothing is, nor has anything ever been more important than "The Mission". So in that sense, Nolan failed.
All things considered though, it is still the greatest superhero trilogy ever and up there in trilogies in general considering the third movie in a trilogy is usually pretty sub par.

i think Heath Ledger's Joker is the best played character in the series. he carries TDK and made the series what it is today. Batman Begins was solid but nothing special.Who wins the fight for second best in the Dark Knight Trilogy?
That 8 year time gap did hurt the series in my opinion, should have been no more than a years time to pass for Gordon and the boys to use the Dent Act.Dark Knight Rises tried to do too much.
