My feeling is On land the bear actually wins. Go watch videos of how hippos die in fights. Thick hide yes but they always end up dead If one of them gets in a position to get multiple scratches on its lower back. They kinda rasp against it. And make it bleed out over a long period.
The bear will be agile enough to avoid the hippos only point of attack which is its teeth. And agile enough to get to its back to attack that side. Heavy enough to put some weight on it. Hippos aren't that agile. Can't go up a hill. Can't cross trenches dug on the ground.. Over heat during the day (that's why they stay in water all day then come out at night to eat grass) Lions are capable of killing them even though for the most part its one sided and they generally don't fukk with them.
and I would think so is a bear but hippos are beasts though. But they have a glaring weak point. Notice in the video once it's back is taken its helpless. And either just takes it or runs. It doesn't counter attack.
