I never recall an athlete coming to school or any other place and telling everyone they could make the NBA. It was moreso about being great at WHATEVER you choose to do. Every kid in general doesnt have the thought of playing pro-sports anyway.

On top of this, this teacher is automtically ASSUMING Steph Curry is jaded about life and the advantages he's had. Maybe he is, but maybe he's not.

Hell, why listen to anything Obama has to say about life? Because 99.9999999999999999999% of us will never be President.

As a teacher, one of the most heartbreaking things (for a number of reasons) is having a classroom full of boys who all want to be a professional athlete, even though none of them have ever played a single day of organized sports or have the least bit of athleticism to them at all. They also don't have the resources or support to get better.

That being said, I have made it a point never to shyt on their dreams. All I ask them to do is have a backup plan. Maybe work their asses off to get a scholarship or something and go to a school to become a sports therapist, or sports manager, or lawyer, or something. Anything.

Sadly there's no fame or recognition in there. Matter of fact, about 4 hours, I literally had a kid tell me that he would rather be the player than the owner (we were having a discussion about about Dan Gilbert and the aftermath of Lebron leaving a few years back). It's crazy, but how do you tell the truth without shytting on these kids' dreams?
One of the things America has going for it in regards to child rearing is that we do tell them to shoot for the stars and that anything is possible.

Asian countries shyt on us when it comes to education, but their robotic method also leaves little room for imagination. The reason so many patents come out of the US is because we tell kids they can do anything and they take that literally.

Our long term reward is innovation. There's a reason China is constantly trying to steal technology from us and not the other way around.

I know. It's like, Since when did Steph Curry ever mention that he wanted to visit that school in the first place?

I could write a letter to Steph Curry too, "Aiyo, don't visit my house. Bruh."
Am I going to become an Internet sensation? No. I won't.
because hes making a greater point and exploring a deeper topic, while you're just trolling the internet

this had to be explained to you why?

This shyt is potent, like that 'You are not special' commencement speech.
Seems awfully selfish but on his part.
Especially the whole 'I was right about 99.9%' like shyt my man :damn:
However I agree, this is the nature of being a sportsman, any kid who has gone through this or known somebody will know this.
I just hope he could've conveyed it better, seems awfully bitter.
And the fact that he thinks Steph hasn't had to overcome some challenges at some point during his journey to the pinnacle of the NBA is egregious af.

Successful people in other careers like doctors, lawyers, managers etc.?

1. Did they offer to come to this school?

2. Wait - you mean people from neighborhoods like the ones this teacher describes can be "doctors, lawyers, managers" and so forth?
Even if their parents weren't? Is that okay with Teach?
