It comes from the emoji (looks like a penis), Italians don't use the word Eggplant in English derogatorily. The use the term mulignan (eggplant in Italian).

I don't think many of us knew it had negative connotations attached....Seeing its origins, I definitely wouldn't advocate the usage of it
