So both your grandfather and grandmother did trades? I wanna find a woman who does trades so badly :mjcry:

How did he like being a BoilerMaker? I heard its alot of traveling
All the unions travel but how much they travel depends on how in demand certain trades are. He was fortunate that he had a permanent position at a chemical plant in NJ so he didn't have to travel but that was way back then. Nowadays boilermakers travel all over u.s and Canada chasing checks. Specifically places with ports and shipyards.

“He’s financially straight and everything. I just think he knows when people retire, they die. That’s what he’s said: Old people don’t have nothing to do, they see their friends retire, and then they retire, and that’s when they die of boredom too. It’s like people who are married a long time — if one dies, the next goes right after. That’s like my grandfather and this place. He doesn’t want the will inside him to dry up."

This is why it's better to burn out than fade away... shout out to Cobain.

Not my job to comment on a mans family.

What you gonna do? Shame him until he acts like you?

Like i said. What do you propose be done? I dont like to point out peoples weak spots for the world to comment on and make fun of.
If this was a black man busting his ass at menial jobs so his descendants could live better lives then this article wouldn’t have been written. He should’ve instilled education to his son/grandson so he wouldn’t have to follow in his footsteps like those immigrants do.

Cant front like this isn't sad and undesirable , but this thread is unfolding as if low wage labor aint been tbe bread and butter of the black community (at large) since forever here. We can talk about his or any one elses individual choices all day, but it aint like hes out of alignment with black life at any point in history, unfortunately. Clowning him is clowning ourselves...to the ones that are really black at least

The real problem is, he could actually make real moves with the paper when he started, now his labor is worth nothing....Prolly effectively less than he started smh .

Politics been hollow for some time now....were in dire need of a real labor movement lime yesterday...thats gonna be a catalyst that could collapse the nation

this shyt is disgusting on multiple levels

Ray Walker said he’s asked Loggan about advancing but “Loggan doesn’t want anything else — he’s said he’s fine where he is.” He said, “I think he views this as a place where he knows people, he’s safe and comfortable.” He said Loggan “was the complete opposite of a Black Panther kind of guy,” never an advocate or rabble rouser. He said that limited schooling “probably helped smooth out his world — I would doubt Loggan really ever dreamed about buying a Cadillac.”

:mjpls:

“He could retire now,” said Javon Chambers, his grandson, himself a Walker Bros. busser for 15 years

:snoop:

It’s hard not to notice the social gulf between customers and staff in a place like Walker Bros. Not that any of this is unique, of course. The optics are just a bit more evident: The staff is black and Latino, wearing old timey diner hats, serving comfort food to mostly white, affluent, well-educated North Shore families, the dining rooms wrapped in polished wood and stained glass more common a half century ago. That said, it’s also not uncommon to see customers giving bear hugs to beloved bussers and servers. It’s a warm community hub, a fixture of the local culture

:scust:
Jesus Christ.

I'm gonna post this every time 1 of these stories is shared. it makes me sick
Meanwhile, continental philosophers have been asking those questions since Marx, but because of America’s white supremacist Protestantism, working hard/capitalism has been the unquestioned dogma.

I feel you.

But the fact that dude hasn’t gotten ONE RAISE in 50 years says everything.

It’s not so much about the Job, but about his mindset to NEVER rock the boat. And never demand more.

Movements can only help those who are down for the cause to help themselves and fight on the frontlines.

This guy would prolly cuss someone out for suggesting he demand more. And tell you about how good his bosses treat him.
