What I'm saying is that what you're describing IS church. Church is about fellowship and building so we are suppose to come together and do all those things. But we made it about a whole room of church people patting each other on the back and forgetting the community. Humans pervert what things are suppose to be all the time.

Spending money on church can help people who need it inside and outside the church as well. I have a friend whose mom needed money for their mortgage and county taxes or else would really be in a bind. The church didn't give her anything. The point of tithes is to help build the church as a body not just a building so she should have gotten a grant just as people in the streets should get some help too.

Yeah. That's the messed up part. We pump all this money into the church and when people actually need it, the church is like

Not to mention that these churches often setup accounts at cac banks where Black folks have trouble getting loans. We really need to reimagine the church in the Black community. It's just a Sunday morning social club at this point.

The idea of church today and how we make it some exclusive service doesn't mean that church in general is suppose to be like this. Church is suppose to be steeped in giving back to the community and coming together and figuring out how to serve God better. So stuff like community clean up, soup kitchens, gun take back programs can easily fall under what we should be doing on Sundays at/with the church it's just we pigeon holed what we should do there instead.

The idea of a person who reads the bible preaching it to other people who read the bible so they can all feel they know the bible is unproductive to the community at large who may not know God at all.

Church is supposed to bring the community together and teach them how to be a community.
These community projects y'all talmbat would go over a lot easier/more effectively if you knew each other and felt
you all wanted the same thing. Problem with that is, seldom is it happening where the preacher is preaching what's
in the Bible...that's why it seems unproductive!

Real talk - I challenge you - go to a church and look around. See how many times the "pastor" reads from the Bible.
See how much of it he reads. See if he notes the context. See if anybody else there has a Bible and is reading it.
How you gonna know if what dude is saying is right if you don't read it for yourself? If you been going to church
for a long time and you still don't "know God", you need to skirt out from that church, yo.

The last place you would expect Juan McFarland to be on Sunday was at the pulpit. But that’s exactly where the pastor was, despite recently admitting to church members he had AIDS and slept with church members without revealing his condition.

McFarland is still the pastor at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama. Sunday, McFarland delivered a sermon on “divine healing,” according to WSFA-TV, and confirmed to the station he would not be stepping down. The church hierarchy voted for McFarland to step down 80-2, following his AIDS admission as well as other troubling actions such as drug use and mishandling church funds. WSFA reports there were some 50 people in attendance on Sunday, many of whom were not expecting to see McFarland.

The station also reports that McFarland’s health is in visible decline. Longtime Shiloh church member and current deacon Nathan Williams reiterated that parishioners want only to “take the church back,” not to “hurt” McFarland. McFarland is still listed as Shiloh’s pastor on the church’s official website. Montgomery attorney Julian McPhillips informed WSFA he is working with church leadership to “finalize” a civil lawsuit, which they will file Tuesday. The suit will include a restraining order to presumably keep McFarland away from church grounds.
