I will say this bruh bruh
Try to get that TS/SCI. Even if it means going ANG or crosstraining on Active Duty.

That shyt makes a difference. Especially when trying to do Defense or State Department Contract work.

Look into Microsoft getting the JEDI contract.....they will need IT professionals with TS/SCI's to work on that project. And theyd rather not spend the money getting all of the Red dots and Chinamen clearances.....They will more than likely create a program to funnel DoD IT Experts straight in.
Dap and rep

Art Degree English Degree Types...
Perhaps no degree at all...
Chance meeting with the right person...
Responded to the right ad...

Your life is changed...

And had you not got that one lucky break...your shyt would be in shambles

I wouldn't be in shambles but I definitely got several lucky breaks. But I only started getting lucky when I started working extremely hard.

TWICE!

I'm a big procrastinator so I don’t really make moves like a should.

I have a two year degree from ITT Tech. :hhh:

I was doing my own thing, graphic design for a couple years, not really making much like people would think.

my friend called me up one day and offered me a supervisor position making 51k. Been in it for 3 years and made it to operation manager making 65k.

a few months ago my coworker bought a box truck and got some contracts making like 9k a month after paying her expenses and truck lease.

She put me on, so she found a guy that sold me a 26 ft box truck for 18k. My girlfriend actually paid for it and we went got our DOT and MC number. Got plugged in on some loads....

so I’m preparing to quit my warehouse manager job and do that full time.

I took a week off of work and made 7k picking up/dropping off.

next move is to get a semi.

I always say anyone can get a job
but it takes someone to keep it

with that said i've felt lucky for all the jobs i've ever done
I started as a programmer/DBA, then changed career paths and went into managment, then I changed careers again in marketing, and changed again and am now an SE

I was succesful in every career change and I can't bring myself to believe luck played no part in that

This is impressive. How long were you in school? Did the time you spent help you?

I ask this question because along the way I’ve met people in tech who either didn’t have an IT or Science degree or anything at all and were highly technical and better than a lot of their peers who had the education and experience. I’m trying to understand why that is so?

Exactly. The luck is getting the job. The hard part and the hard work is keeping it. Exact reason why some years ago I got a crazy offer when I knew I was under qualified. So much so that I had dry mouth when she offered me the role right after the interview. Even dryer when she broke down the salary and quarterly bonus payout. Double my current salary at the time which was good money.

Man I had to figure out how much shyt I bulshytted about in the interview “oh yea I know that, yep, did that too” to see if I could finesse the shyt. I realized after thinking it through that I probably couldn’t do the job and wouldn’t have enough time to learn. I likely wouldn’t make it out of probation....so I turned it down.

But it’s all about getting the opportunity. The hard part is what you do with that opportunity. It’s good to see how folk have progressed, especially black folk who we all know have an even tougher battle.

Introvert brehs... life ain’t fair but you gotta network and crack corny jokes with the right people. In the south If I’m going to some event I brush up on all the SEC games from the previous week. All you gotta do is mention the (false) God Nick Saban and most of the time you already got their attention

Wouldn't say luck but laid the groundwork for many years with expansion of my network and, from that, I guess lucked up. Damn near doubled my salary and there's potential to become the Director in a short period of time.

I'm extremely thankful and remain humble as I traverse through my career.:wow:
