Nah I be watching these shows a lot and childhood sexual abuse/assault is way too common a theme to be ignored

A lot of them start compulsively eating afterward to basically insulate/isolate themselves from other people and develop a real sense of disgust and detachment from their physical selves

Nope, not going with the abused/mental disorder nonsense, these people are simply fat and lazy. Sexual abuse and assault isn't just an American problem, you'll be hard pressed to find some bed ridden obese people in countries where excess food isn't available.
