It's hard to comment on this because we don't know all the details of Kobe's relationship with his mother. People can't comprehend how someone can't have a relationship with their parents but we don't know his situation growing up, how it was prior to Vanessa situation. However his mother did have his best interest in mind when she tried to stop him marrying Vanessa.
